WHO IS REGGIE?

Millarville Reggie final1 231x300 CONTESTS & FUN

Reggie

A genuine, larger-than-life, eight-foot-tall Rooster. We’re not making that up.

We seem to remember Reggie being at the original Priddis & Millarville Fair in 1907 – 104 years ago – and we were surprised when he sent word that he wants to finally come home to our fantastic, old-style Agricultural Fair, on August 20.

WHERE IS REGGIE NOW?
Well, we don’t really know. We think he’s going to come to your school though. Maybe he’s there today. But where will he be tomorrow? Reggie sometimes tells us what direction he’s heading so keep checking back to www.millarvilleracetrack.com and this page for ongoing clues as to his whereabouts. Reggie will be on the road, stopping at individual schools and then, later in the summer, towns and villages and remote places in the countryside.

“REGGIE’S LONG JOURNEY HOME CONTEST”
It’s up to you to tell us, either in art or in essay form or both, where Reggie has been all these years, what he’s seen in the Millarville area through the passage of time, where you’ve been seeing him lately in our area and, finally, how he’s finally going to get back home to the 104th Annual Priddis & Millarville Fair on August 20 at the Millarville Racetrack.

The questions you might think about when imagining your story: “What has happened to Reggie in all these years, how did he become a displaced Rooster, how did he get his name, why is he so big, what fields did he have to cross in his travels, whom did he meet on his journeys, what dangers did he face, what good times did he have, what changes has he seen in our area through the years, how did he know he was welcome back at the Fair, what can he do at the Fair when he gets there and how does he want to be dressed for his big moment when he gets home?”

All good questions you can answer. Let your imagination run wild.

Guidelines: Work as individuals or in a team/group.  Paint, draw, sculpt and/or write your story about Reggie and/or how he will look when he goes home to live at the Millarville Racetrack. Write your story as prose, an epic poem or as a song!! Use paper or board to draw, paint or work on OR use layers of things to make a collage OR use clay or blocks or other 3D materials to make up your story and/or your image of Reggie and how he will look when he goes home to Millarville. You can also use a computer to generate your creation or make a video, in good taste, that we can show at the Fair.  Just remember, we have to display it somehow. Deliver it back to your teacher before the end of the school year for pickup OR to the Millarville Racetrack with the entry form filled out, between 9 a.m. and 12 noon, Monday to Thursday, up to August 19, 2011.dm1-5 p.m. in the Riding Arena on August 19.  You can pick up your entries at the end of Fair day on August 20. For inquiries, call Suzanne Oel at 403.931.2711.

WINNING A RIBBON AT THE 104th ANNUAL PRIDDIS & MILLARVILLE FAIR

Creative combinations of the two (written story & art elements) will also be accepted. Judges will be very interested in your interpretation of our agricultural history and heritage as well.

Ribbons & prizes will be awarded for the following categories: (Prizes donated by Rick Charlton, RBC Dominion Securities, Calgary South):
Preschool, Grades 1-3, Grades 4-6, Grades 7-9, Grades 10-12, Adults
Ribbons for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and participants for the six age categories
Cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd of each category

As a bonus, we think Reggie needs to be dressed-up a bit for his Homecoming Party, either in clothes he might have been wearing in another era or in costume you think he should be wearing in the next century. As you imagine Reggie’s journey in your Art Work, show us how you think he should be dressed. We might surprise you and try to fit him to the best description on Fair Day.

We will publish first place winning Art work and Stories from children on this page at www.millarvilleracetrack.com

I’M AN ADULT. I WANT TO PLAY TOO.
Beginning in late July, Reggie will be moving through towns and villages, sitting in the countryside . . . . . . and we would be delighted to see an art or story creation creation about Reggie in his various locations which shows us his larger than life “Long Journey Home,” with ribbons awarded at the Fair for entry. You can find Reggie’s itinerary on our website and take part in the fun. Work in teams or individually. Ribbons & Prizes will be awarded.  Deliver entries with Entry Form to the Millarville Racetrack up to August 19, 2011, 9 a.m. to Noon, Monday to Thursday. ABOUT THE MILLARVILLE RACING & AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY AND THE PRIDDIS & MILLARVILLE FAIR
The Priddis & Millarville Fair is a century-old tradition, one of the few, pure old-style Agricultural Fairs remaining in Canada, which, last year set records with more than 4000 entries in classes ranging from junior baking, photography, grains, roosters, bunnies, quilts, dressed-up dogs and horses, etc. but also drew a record 7,000 spectators to enjoy a petting zoo, Kids World, agricultural equipment and car displays, hay rides and other activities for all ages while fully integrated with an all-day Millarville Farmers’ Market. The 104th Annual Priddis & Millarville Fair will be on August 20, 2011 at the Millarville Racetrack under the auspices of the Millarville Racing & Agricultural Society.

The Millarville Racing & Agricultural Society was born in early 1905, before the Province of Alberta, when the Race Club bought land to stage the first Races, running this summer for the 106th time in a row. In 1907, the first Priddis & Millarville Fair was staged and in 1951, the Hall Association joined with the Race Club and Fair to incorporate as MRAS.

We hope your stories, art work and photographs will be enough information to help Reggie find his way back to the Fair!!!
